I have often been asked, "What do you call a person who is in therapy - a patient or a client?" Although I prefer the term client, I've now come to feel, as someone who's spent a good deal of time on both sides of the couch, that the term patient is much more descriptive than client of the work that humans do in the process of finding meaning in this crazy existence that we share. The pace at which change occurs can seem glacial, and we must indeed be patient in allowing - and helping - that process to unfold.
